Work is Play
When you’re inspired, your work is play. You stop thinking about it as “work” because you are so excited to move forward with the project, it becomes something that you love to do. When you can find something that pulls on you like this, then you can have a peek at what life would be like if you truly loved your work.
When I discover a project that really inspires and excites me, my mind starts dancing with ideas. When I am fully enrolled in a new project that I have created for myself, it doesn’t matter what the project entails or how long the project will take - I am so excited about the project that it becomes fun. This weekend I experienced this phenomenon.
On Friday night I was so excited to get started with my new project that I stayed up late. I tucked my girlfriend into bed and then sat down at my computer for several hours. I eventually dragged myself away from my desk, but then my eyes popped open at 7am on Saturday morning. I couldn’t wait to get back to my project.
After a few hours on Saturday morning I had to stop and take a nap since I couldn’t concentrate due to lack of sleep - but this is what happens when you are captured by something. Your work becomes play and nothing else matters. You don’t worry if your spouse went to bed 3 hours ago. You wake up before your alarm clock and you feel energized. You jump out of bed and forget about breakfast because all you can think about is your new obsession.
For children, this is something they experience everyday. They are so excited by the world, everything inspires them. For adults, it is a more rare occurrence. The world has beaten us down and inspiration doesn’t come by nearly as often as it once did. We are so stuck in our probable almost certain future that we refuse to do anything about it.
If you haven’t been inspired in a while, I invite you to find something that really pulls at you. Something that makes you want to stay up late, something that makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning. It isn’t something that you can really go looking for, but when you find your inspiration you will know it.

Thanks for the update, and glad you liked the post. I haven’t felt like I’ve been writing particularly well lately - a bit of writers block.

Too true Chris! I love what I do that I don’t class it as work unless I need my family to leave me alone to get it done! To them it’s work and to me, it’s play!!
Updated you too

Yes sometimes I’m so excited about a project that I’m working on that I don’t want to quit at quitting time. That’s when you’ve found something good…
