4 Ways to Lose Weight Now

lose weight nowThere are some easy things that you can do in your everyday life that will help you lose weight now and start down the path to a healthy lifestyle. Today I have reached a point where I jog and exercise several times a week, but I didn’t get there overnight. I started by implementing some basic things into my lifestyle. Here are some ideas that can help you start to lose weight now, without having to hit the gym.

Drink More Water – I took this on several years ago and I started to shed pounds quickly. Soft drinks (Juice, Pop, Soda, Beer, etc) are loaded with empty calories that provide basically no value to your body. Water, on the other hand, doesn’t carry the empty calories. Water also helps to cleanse your body, and obviously keeps you very hydrated. Many people say that they feel more energized and their skin is clearer after they stop drinking soft drinks and start drinking more water.

Take The Stairs- I live on the second floor of my building and often see people waiting for the elevator, to go down up one floor. The basic idea here is that most Americans take less than 2,000 steps per day, which is not very good for your body. We spend our lives sitting down in front of computers, so any time you can do to get yourself to take a few extra steps, it is good. Park in a further parking space, walk to the store, take your dog for a walk, take the stairs. Every little bit will add up to help you lose weight.

Pack Your Lunch – If you eat fast food regularly (more than once a month), you can start to lose weight now by stopping that practice. Most fast food options are horrible for your diet and health. High in fat and sugar, low in anything good. Even the recent addition of salads at McDonald’s have proven to be not as healthy as they may seem, as they have a huge amount of sugar. A great step towards a healthy lifestyle is to pack your lunch every day, and it will save you a lot of money too.

Start at the Grocery Store – Of course, packing lunch won’t do you any good unless you’re buying good foods to begin with. If you are surfing the junk food aisle and buying frozen dinners, that’s what you’re going to be eating at home. You already have a basic idea of what is good and what is bad, the key is to implement those ideas into your shopping habits. If all you have at home is Twinkies, then you are going to eat Twinkies when you are hungry. If you start buying fruit, nuts, etc, then you will begin to eat those items and lose weight without thinking about it.

I like how you put the first tip as water. Other than soymilk (milk when I’m at home and not at school), I mainly drink water. It helps my complexion and makes me feel less bloated on some days. So I’m always walking around with my SIGG waterbottle and just refill it whenever!

    Joanne -

When I was in high school my mother would always tell me about a story when she started drinking a lot of water and then everyone started telling her how clean her skin looked – I think that’s where I started my water habit.

I use frozen dinners, but I use low-carb, low-calorie Weight Watchers Smart Ones meals.

I cut out the starches – no crackers, no potatoes, no rice, no pasta, no beans. I eat mostly meat, soy products, veggies, and dairy (mostly yogurt and cottage cheese). Very little fruit, but TONS of veggies. No sugar!

I *write down* everything I eat 6 days a week and make reasonable choices the other day.

I make sure to get in physical activity 6 days a week, even if it’s just some walking.

So far my acne has cleared up and I’ve lost 69 pounds. :)

Victoria – Sounds like you’re doing an awesome job! It’s really amazing the difference that can be made, just by making some simple adjustments to your diet, etc. Writing down everything that you eat is also a great idea – I’ve tried a similar approach with my money, writing down everything that I spend.
