Landmark Advanced Course

Landmark Forum Advanced CourseThis past weekend I took part in the Landmark Education Advanced Course. The course took place over the course of a long weekend (Fri-Sun) and ran from 10am till about 11pm each day. This was my first course after The Landmark Forum, and I am starting my weekly seminar this Thursday. The Thursday seminar was included in my tuition for The Landmark Forum.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the room for The Advanced Course was that there were a lot fewer chairs than there were during The Landmark Forum. There were about 115 people in my Forum, while there were about 40 people in my Advanced Course. This provided for a lot more interaction and personal attention. I also got to know a lot more people out of The Advanced Course.

For me to try and explain The Advanced Course isn’t something that I would be able to do in the context of a blog. What I can say is that the entire weekend is setup to help you become “someone that you have never been before.”

While The Advanced Course and The Landmark Forum were similar with their goals, there are many differences between the courses. Among these differences were the ability to take notes, watching some short videos, different types of activities and working with small groups. If I was to draw a line between The Landmark Forum and The Advanced Course, I’m not sure that I can say “The Landmark Forum was about X and The Advanced Course was about Z.” - both are about finding why things in your life aren’t working, repairing relationships, etc.

Much like The Landmark Forum, everyone gets something different out of The Advanced Course; but everyone comes out of The Advanced Course having discovered their “Act”, which is essentially the role that you play in your life. Through a series of exercises and over the course of the weekend, you come to distinguish your Act and find how your Act is preventing you from fully experiencing your life.

Through much of The Advanced Course I was enjoying myself and enjoying the critical thinking that was required, but I was feeling a bit underwhelmed by the course as a whole. The activities were good and I was meeting a lot of great people, but I just wasn’t feeling blown away by the experience. I was going through the motions of the weekend, but I wasn’t sure that I was really getting everything.

Halfway through the third day we did the activity where were finally established what was our Act - and once my Act was established, my entire view of the weekend shifted. Things fell together in the matter of a moment. The insight was really amazing. I will share more about my Act in another post, as it has provided a lot of possibilites for my life already.

Tonight is my evening session and I’m looking forward to what has been promised as a life-altering exercise that we will be doing tonight.

If you’ve taken The Landmark Forum or The Advanced Course, or have something to add to this conversation, please leave a comment and I will be sure to respond.
