How to Enroll People in your Goals

Enrolling People Landmark ForumYesterday when I talked about How to Restart Your Lifestyle, I mentioned the idea of enrolling people in your goals, so I thought I would take some time to expand on the idea of enrolling people in your goals, and exactly what that means.

The idea of enrollment is something that I first encountered during my landmark forum. To enroll someone means to share your goals (or experiences) with someone else so that they are “touched, moved, and inspired by that possibility”. When you enroll someone in your goals, it goes from being an idea that is in your head to being an idea that exists in the world and that other people are involved in.

When you enroll someone in one of you goals, it is helpful to share something meaningful or show that person how this could effect their life. Your goal doesn’t have to be something that directly effects your enrollee, but you want to share your goal in such a way that they are “touched, moved and inspired” - otherwise they are just nodding their head and agreeing with you. While this has a lot to do with how you share your goal (are you enthusiastic about it?), it also has a lot to do with what you are sharing about the goal.

You could share it this way:
“I’m going to start working out again on Monday.”

But this might get the person a bit more enrolled:
“I’m tired of being out of shape. I want to be proud of my body and I want to feel great every day. I’m going to get back on my exercise program and running 3 times each week. I want to get back to my diet because I felt so much more full of energy and healthy when I was sticking to it.”

Do you feel the difference? Your enrollee will feel the difference too.

The next time you establish a goal for yourself, consider getting at least one person enrolled with your goal. Share your goal, and share why the goal is important to you. When you get other people enrolled in what you are doing, the enrollee feels a level of accountability for your goal and is more committed to seeing you succeed. Enrollment generates more energy and lets the universe know that you are serious. Things will begin to align around you and you will begin to do the things that you need to do in order to reach your new goal.

Have an experience with enrollment? Leave a comment and tell us about it.
