Do More of What Works

Do More of What WorksMark at 45n5.com’s make money online blog made a video post today about keywords and money. This deal with web development, but I saw a lot of ways that Mark’s ideas could be used in the rest of life. The main concept behind Mark’s post is to “do more of what works.” In the web development world, people will often build one project that is successful and then move on to the next project. While this is great and exciting, sometimes it’s better to spend some time doing more of what works, thus generating more success. Mark describes it in terms of a gold miner - when someone finds gold in the river, they don’t run off and try to find another river - they keep working the same spot looking for more gold.

In my life, I have applied this thinking to different areas without really considering it. When I was dating, I developed a method that I could repeat. I would meet a some girls out in the world, but a lot of the women that I met were from online personals. I knew that if I could get the girls to meet me in person, that they would like me - so I developed a standard way of getting them to meet me. I tried different ideas and eventually arrived at a series of emails that I could tweak for each individual person, and get them to meet me for drinks after a few emails.

Some people might think this is sketchy, but it worked - and the point of this post isn’t to discuss my old dating habits but rather to talk about establishing systems that works over and over again.

Looking at your life, what areas do you have repeated success and what areas do you experience a flow between success and failure? Leave A Comment.
