The Landmark Education Sex and Intimacy Seminar is one of many courses offered by Landmark Education and entails 10 sessions which took place over the course of 5 months. The seminar crossed over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, so we had several multi-week breaks throughout the program.

Landmark Education Sex and Intimacy Seminar
I took this seminar with my girlfriend, which put us in a place to confront many of the nagging issues in our relationship. As we explored in the Sex and Intimacy Seminar, we found that much of the resentment and indifference that arises in relationships comes from things that go unsaid. As an example, I might interpret something that my girlfriend does and I might form a judgment around my interpretation. If I keep my interpretation to myself, it becomes ‘the truth’ to me and creates a space between us. Once you can open up and share these issues with each other, you instantly create room for greater intimacy. We’ve been dealing with a lot of long-term questions and while things are not perfect, at least we are dealing with our problems.

In the end, this seminar offered the opportunity to open up the communication in my relationship. Instead of hiding our feelings, we can now share (more) freely about what we are feeling at any given moment. It isn’t productive to keep your thoughts bottled inside because while you might be temporarily saving someone’s feelings, it will create a space between you that can be hard to overcome.

If you are interested in The Landmark Forum or other programs, I have written several posts about Landmark Education.

I am currently enrolled in a weekly seminar through Landmark Education title “Living Passionately: The Art and Mastery of Playing The Game of Life”. The goal of the seminar is to leave you living life with “purpose, grace and ease.” One of the ideas that we discuss in this seminar is “Playing Full-Out”, that is, playing life full-out every day.

It took me a few sessions before I started to play along, but over the last 2-3 weeks, I have been playing life full-out. To me, playing life full-out means that you are giving everything that you have to give on a daily basis. You aren’t just “going through the motions”, but rather you are making things happen and you are pursuing something bigger for your life.

Since the begin of this month, I have been involved with a 30 Day Challenge where I have been attempting to create a stream of passive income for myself. On top of my quest for passive income, I have also been working and billing more hours on a regular daily basis than I ever have. This is generating more income for myself, but also creating a time-crunch. Where I once had many hours to dedicate to blogging and other random ideas, I now need to be much more effective with my time.

One result of playing life full-out is that I am not having any problems sleeping. While I sometimes do not want to go to bed because I am working on projects that I am really excited about, once I lay down to bed I fall asleep quickly. Another result is that I am accomplishing a lot more on a daily basis. Rather than sitting around and wasting my time, I have a lot of things on my plate and have an urge to work on everything.

If you aren’t being carried off the field, then you aren’t playing life full-out. You’re likely wasting a lot of time or making a lot of excuses. If you are owning your actions and being unreasonable, then you are on your way to playing life full-out.

As I was writing yesterday’s post about the Probable Almost Certain Future, I began to see a lot of parallels between the teachings of The Landmark Forum / The Landmark Advanced Course and the ideas from The Law of Attraction. While Landmark Education makes no references to The Secret or The Law of Attraction, I have heard many people in my seminars make references to The Secret, and I can see many ways in which the ideas from The Landmark Forum are similar to those from The Law of Attraction.

To make a comparison between The Law of Attraction and The Landmark Forum, I will use the example of debt.

The Law of Attraction and The Secret would say that the reason I am unable to get out of debt is because I am always thinking about my debt, and thus sending out signals of “debt” to The Universe. The Universe receives these signals and replies to me by sending me more debt.

In My Landmark Forum and Landmark Advanced Course, their message was that the reason I have been unable to get out of debt is because I am repeatedly living into my Probable Almost Certain Future. I am living an “Act” that bring me more debt, and I am going to continue to live into that Act unless I do something to change it.

The Secret and The Law of Attraction tell you that The Universe is responsible, and that you can change The Universe by changing your thoughts and actions. The Landmark Forum tells you that your Act is responsible and you can change your Probable Almost Certain Future by learning to recognize your Act and to make changes accordingly. Basically they are both saying that you are the one who is responsible, and that without changing your actions you will not bring about any positive change in your life.

In The Landmark Forum and The Landmark Advanced Course, they introduced the idea of The Probable Almost Certain Future. Most people tend to repeat the same situations in their lives over and over again. They date the same kind of person. They find the same kind of job. They always have the same problems. This is the basic meaning of The Probable Almost Certain Future. The Probable Almost Certain Future is the continuation of the way things currently are.

Along your path of personal growth and self improvement, you will want to examine your Probable Almost Certain Future. You can look at different areas of your life such as relationships, money, family and career. If you continue down the same path that you have been living, what is the Probable Almost Certain Future for each of those areas? If you’re like most people, your Probable Almost Certain Future isn’t much different from the life that you are living at this very moment.

As an example, my Probable Almost Certain Future around money is that I will continue to not have anything beyond my bare necessities. I will complain about not having enough money, but nothing will really change.

Once you have acknowledged your Probable Almost Certain Future, then you can begin to do something about it. In order to alter your Probable Almost Certain Future, you need to make a drastic change. If you have a poor relationship with your Mother and you want to change your Probable Almost Certain Future around that relationship, you are going to have to acknowledge what you have been doing that has been destroying that relationship.

I can’t coach you through the whole thing here, but it is important that you acknowledge where you are at fault – This is not about where the other person has been wrong. If you approach the situation looking to place blame on the other person, you are going to come out worse than you went in. This isn’t about proving that you are right. This is about accepting responsibility, getting over yourself and moving forward with your life.

This weekend I participated in The Landmark Advanced Course, during which I discovered my “Act” and had some big realizations about myself. Your Act is basically a decision that you made sometime when you were a child, and it has effected your life into adulthood. Most people live out their Act every minute of every day. Over the course of the weekend we did many exercises to help us discover our Act.

Through many of the exercises, I had it in my mind that my Act was something along the lines of “Hide from your problems”. That’s how I’ve dealt with a lot of things in my life, hiding under the blanket and hoping that my problems would disappear. When Sunday of my Landmark Advanced Course rolled around and we finally got to the exercise where we defined our Act, I was having trouble finding exactly what my Act is. After the initial exercise, I volunteered to go in front of the group and be coached to help discover my Act.

I told a story about when I was in the Boy Scouts and my patrol had decided to put in an extra effort to try and take first place at a conference-wide competition. I won’t bore you with all the details, but the gist of the story is that my patrol spent 2-3 months training for the event, and ended up in second place. In my mind it was a big failure. We put in all that work and we still couldn’t beat the repeat winners.

I was coached around this a bit, trying to figure out “what did I decide” as a result of coming in second place? Your Act is stated as a command, as something that you command yourself to do. When we came in second place after all our hard work, I decided that no matter how hard you work, someone is always going to beat you. I commanded to myself “Don’t Work Hard.”

My Act is “Don’t Work Hard” and when I realized that, my whole life made a lot more sense. I didn’t work hard at school. I don’t work hard in my career. I don’t work hard on my relationships. If something requires hard work, I’m likely to see it as useless.

As I’ve gone through these two days since my Landmark Advanced Course and discovering my Act, I’ve been seeing more and more ways that “Don’t Work Hard” has made its way into every aspect of my life. Now the challenge is to continue to recognize when I am commanding myself “Don’t Work Hard”, and to create a new future and possibility around that.

The Advanced Course is a program offered by Landmark Education.
